Taekwondo originated in Korea between 1940 and 1950 as a mix of indigenous Korean fighting styles.
Tae (foot) Kwon (hand) Do (art or 'way of') - meaning the way of the foot and hand - focuses intensely on kicks and combines several disciplines.
We train three of those disciplines: Poomsae, Kyorugi and Kyokpa.
Pooomsae (forms): There are 8 defined forms (Taegeuk) of kicks, blocks and punches. A black belt has to execute all eight forms correctly.
Kyorugi (sparring): Kyorugi is a sparring match between two competitors. Points are collected depending on form and contact, generally there are 3 matches per round, lasting 2 minutes per match. The competitors wear safe guards.
Kyokpa (board breaking): Without a doubt one of the most spectacular parts of Taekwondo. Boards are broken by kicks or punches using various techniques, requiring speed, strength and courage.
